The remains of extinct animals dating back to the Ice Age lie hidden beneath the permafrost of Russia’s Far East, Altai and the Southern Urals. The carcass of an ancient bison found in Magadan — one of the most extreme regions of Russia — has spent around 30,000 years in permafrost. It is much better preserved than Blue Baby, the famous mummified bison found in Alaska.
